“Vacation Status”

I’m finally back and online once again from my “vacation” at the hospital.

I’ve actually been back since last tuesday. I had the option to stay for a couple more days but decided against it as I was starting to get antsy to get back home & get out and off of that hospital bed. It was quite a whirl wind time there. My surgery was scheduled for around 9:30 am or so. Was in the operating room for a good few hours. Doc removed my uterus and was able to keep my ovaries where they were – thankfully! She found my uterus attached to my lower bowel with Endometriosis, which explains – for now, if I don’t have any other problems after I’ve healed – the pain I was having there. She was able to remove all the disease she could see, along with my uterus without any problems.

However, my stay was not to be so quite. *laugh* Apparently I had a reaction to a medication they were giving me for pain. Doc said that the dose they gave me made my hemoglobin levels drop to a very dangerous level which made me stop breathing and unresponsive for a while. I eventually “came back” to find the Doc and my ward nurse at my side, along with 4 other nurses around my bed. They moved me to another room to be closer to the nurses station so that they could keep an eye on me. I didn’t get very much sleep over the weekend with them coming in every half hour or less to check my stats. On Sunday my hemoglobin levels will still not in a range that they liked. My Doc made the decision to give me a blood transfusion to bring them back up to normal. Was given 3 “sacks” of blood over the period of a few hours. Afterwards and the next day when my Doc saw me again, I was looking and feeling much better. They still kept me in the same room to keep an eye on me for another day, and I was eventually moved back to my original room and bed the day I left the hospital. I did take a crochet project with me and was able to work on it here and there. Thanks to having that out in view I think I saved myself from some bad sides of some nurses that came into my room. *laugh* Once they saw my crochet project, they seemed to lighten up & not be so grumpy with me.

Since being home I’ve been doing pretty good. Been sleeping on the couch so it would be easier on me and I would still be able to feel part of the household. I’m walking around, have been up and down our spiral stairs more than a few times, my appetite is excellent, and I’m sleeping well. I was given a prescription for pain medication before I left the hospital which I’ve been taking every 6 hours or thereabouts.

Between resting my body and taking naps, I’ve been keeping myself from going stir crazy by being busy with crocheting up a storm while watching tv. *laugh* Which shouldn’t come as a surprise to those that know me well! I’m working on 2 separate blankets. One I’m using the yarn I found at Value Village and the other I’m using other yarn that I had bought at Zellers. I also made a monkey (will share pics in the near future) for Jordyn from a pattern I found within a magazine my Mom gave me to keep me busy in the hospital.

Today finds me home alone. My Grandmother, who is staying with us to help me out, went into town with my Mom to do her monthly banking. Jordyn has gone to school for the day. So am enjoying some silence while they’re gone & waiting for my landlord to come by with some information for me so I can pay her the rent when my Mom gets back home to take me to the bank.

And now I’m going to put this computer away and get by butt back on the couch instead of this chair & lying down. Don’t know when I will be able to write again, though am hoping to at least write once a week with updates on my projects & recovery process.
