I feel like Cinderella would have felt moving from her sisters place to the castle. *grin*
We moved into our new place on Sunday, October 18th. Had a great day weather wise, thankfully! Took about 4 – 5 hours to move us in & have the old place cleaned up.
This new place truly feels as like I’m finally home. I have everything I’ve been wanting in a home; kitchen island, separate studio area/room that is accessible without having to walk through the rest of the house, porch/balcony, yard for Jordyn to play in without fear of him getting his by a car. And, the only stairs I have to walk up & down are the ones inside our home to get to our bedrooms and bathroom! We now have two levels, main living area is downstairs while the bedrooms & bath are upstairs. We bought a portable toilet to place in the storage room just off the livingroom so that I would be able to stay downstairs after my operation & not have to worry about getting up & down those stairs all the time.
Start of moving day: Steve (father) posing before the real work gets done at new place… He’s standing by the front door. We have a place for our jackets, shoes & boots. When you walk into the new place in the front, you walk into a sort of landing area. On the left is a large closet that holds the washer & dryer (no coin operated for me anymore!), in front is another door that allows access to a basement suite (that is not underneath us, thankfully!) & extra storage area, and to the right is my place.
(Sorry! photos lost during site maintenance & now trying to remember where I put them on my computer. They’ll be back once I find them again! – Kcrystina, July 1, 2010)
View of back of new house: Upstairs balcony goes to my studio, has separate stairs and entrance from rest of house. Downstairs backdoor takes you into the livingroom. Yes, that’s a reflection of me in the door window. *laugh* …. sorry, didn’t get photo of front of house. Believe it or not, the downstairs of the new place has more windows than the old place altogether!
Now comes the before & after photos *grin* … please excuse mess in before photos, they were taken the week we moved….
Before: view you saw when you walked in the front door.
- Before: entrance/livingroom
Now: What you see when you walk in from the front door as you look left. Right in front of you is the kitchen cabinets & the fridge, stove, so you walk into the kitchen when you come in the front door. (no more struggling up stairs to get our groceries in!)
- After: kitchen/livingroom
Before: Livingroom, front door (and the only door out the place) was on the right…
- Before: livingroom
Now: Livingroom area. Kitchen & livingroom are open concept. This is the view you get as you walk in the back door. Parents are giving us their entertainment unit, which we’ll be getting at some point. Jordyn already has his magnets on the fridge, along with his recent school work.
- After: kitchen/livingroom
Before: kitchen & window
- Before: kitchen
The only window in the kitchen that you could see out of if you looked up or you stood on a chair.
- Before: kitchen window
Now: kitchen window views. Ironically, the house that I see out the window when I’m at the kitchen sink is my old place! *laugh*
- After: kitchen window over sink
This view is from the window between the kitchen sink wall and the stove/fridge. It’s looking towards the pharmacy/fire hall building.
- After: 2nd kitchen window (there are three in total)
Before: Jordyn’s room & window view (curtain wasn’t open just yet as we had gotten up shortly before I took this photo)
- Before: Jordyn’s room
Both our rooms in the old place had the same view of the parking lot for the building.
- Before: our bedroom views
Now: Jordyn’s bedroom & window view … I let him have the bigger room so he would have more place to play, especially when he has friends over.
- After: Jordyn’s bedroom
The view our his window is shows the TransCanada Highway and our front driveway. If the trees behind the flag wasn’t there we would more than likely be able to see my parents place.
- After: Jordyn’s bedroom view
Before: My room/studio – Even though I had the larger room of the two in the old place, it was still pretty “cozy” with my bedroom also functioning as my studio.
- Before: my bedroom/studio
Now: my bedroom, studio and window views…
My room is now only my room *grin* Well, I will have my printer & other computer stuff in my (large) closet; still accessible when I need it yet out of the way when I don’t & it’s not crowding up my studio.
- After: my bedroom
The BEST part of our new home is my new studio area! I’ve taken the entire “landing” area around the stairs. The photos below are a 360 degree view of the room.
My desk & work “station”, with supplies in the bookshelves looking to the left a bit when you walk in the upstairs balcony door.
- After: studio area to left
By closing off the bedroom doors (right) and the bathroom door (left) I create a room of sorts that has it’s own separate entrance. The potted tree my landlord has lent me to display my earrings.
- After: studio area moving to the right
My studio entrance. I’ll be working on this area more in the new year.
- After: studio area to right
Studio entrance & windows. There is another window by my desk area that I can see my old place through some beautiful trees.
- After: studio entrance & windows
Yes, there is even a skylight in my new studio! *grin*
- After: studio skylight
Before: bathroom. Was very small and the toilet was so old that you couldn’t get it clean any longer. Due to it’s age it was covered inside with something from the water.
- Before: bathroom
Now: The new bathroom could easily fit at least 3 of the old bathroom in it. *laugh* The tub is deep and has the ability to become a jacuzzi. The ceilings are very tall. (My brother wouldn’t have to hunch down to take a shower when he visits! *laugh*)
- After: bathroom – shower/tub
The toilet paper stand came with the house. Love it, what a great idea! The bathroom also has tile floor, where as the old place has cheap linoleum, as did the kitchen.
- After: bathroom
All the wood you see in our new home is solid wood, and not the cheap kind either. Even the spiral staircase is solid wood. The old place had wood floors but they were the very cheap tongue & groove kind you can get anywhere. I love that I can now sit on my couch and look out a window… any of the 5 windows downstairs actually! *laugh* The landlord fixed the place up with the thought of her moving in at some point in the distant future.
This place has definitely become home very quickly, thanks to help from my Mom with getting things unpacked and set up. Now that I’m moved I can worry about my surgery this friday.
