For a while now I have found myself floundering about in no particular direction in regards to my jewelry. The term mixed media can mean so many different things, and I think that’s the problem. Because I’ve labeled myself as a mixed media artisan, I feel I have to try and do everything within my jewelry pieces. Which is not helping my sales at all. I need to find direction and focus within my jewelry designs before I will start seeing any sort of progress towards meeting my business goals.
Over the last few days I have been giving a lot of thought to what my focus will be within my jewelry designs. And I’m happy to say that I have now found my focus!
I’m still going to dabble in mixed media, however with a focus. *laugh* My jewelry designs are going to consist of knotwork and crochet with different beads and such added to them. The mixed media part will come in play when choosing beads and such to add some pizzaz to my designs.
The photo of my “Create” necklace, shown here, is an excellent example of what I’m referring to when I say mixed media knotwork & crochet jewelry.
“Create” was designed using cotton cord, zipper tag, sea glass pendant and small blue beads. The knotwork that brings this necklace together is an alternating half hitch knot and an overhand knot.
So basically, anything that I can crochet and knot I will use. *laugh*
It feels great to have found my focus and know where I’m heading with my jewelry line. Now I’m just wondering if I should focus on just one type of jewelry item or several.
