Whether it’s been some form of drawing, painting or sculpting, creativity has always been a large part of who I am. Throughout the years my creativity has found expression through sketching, drawing from photos, writing and graphic/web design.
Since the beginning of 2008 my creative soul turned it’s sights on other means of expression – jewelry making, crochet, knitting, and more recently knooking (creating real knitting stitches with a crochet hook). All of which allow me a freedom of expression I have not had before. I find that I experience such a “high” when I’ve finished a project and am able to hold it (wear it) – knowing that I made it with my very own two hands. Each piece or item I create has a story and memories attached, which makes it even harder to part with.
Nowadays, one would be hard pressed to find me without a hook and some yarn with me. My love for yarn and crochet has blossomed so much more than the jewelry did – I feel more passionate about it than anything else I have a recollection of being excited about. Well, other than having my son. *smiles*
I love that crochet is so portable. I can take it wherever I go and just bring out my hook & yarn when I get an itch to work on the project I have with me at the time. The possibilities with crochet are only limited by my imagination. With having turned my focus upon my love of crochet, I have moved beyond jewelry making – though will continue to design pieces as inspiration comes to me. I have so many plans and ideas brewing within my mind & in my notebook to bring to life and share with everyone. This I do within my other “home”, By Hook & Yarn.
Though I my “yarn babies” will always be my favorite, I do have other materials I enjoy working with; such as crochet thread, cord, shells, nuts & seeds, gemstones, sterling silver and recycled vintage jewelry pieces. With living on Prince Edward Island (Canada) I find I’m surrounded by an abundance of inspiration including the sea glass, beach stones and other treasures my Mother and I find on our walks along the beaches near our homes.
Name Meaning
Though I was born as ‘Tina’, since 1998 when I was expanding my spirituality I had a dream where everyone was referring to me as ‘Christina’. That dream lead to my using and becoming known as ‘Kcrystina’ (pronounced the same as ‘Christina’) on and offline. The spelling came about when I was playing around with the letters trying to find a combination that would resonate with my birth number of four. Since using this particular spelling I am referred to as ‘Tina’, ‘Kcrystina’, and ‘Kcrys’. I have one close friend that often refers to me as ‘Lady K’. *smiles*
